Culture and traditions are very important for the Lungau region. A number of museums, pilgrimage churches and castles offer guided tours and various activities for children and adults alike.

The “Prangstangen” in Zederhaus (ceremonial poles decorated with flowers), the giant Samson and the “Wasserscheibenschiessen” at Preber Lake are traditions that are well known, even beyond the borders of the Lungau region.

In the area between Katschberg and Obertauern, as well as the tributary valleys of the Lungau region, the original dialect and the traditional style of clothing of the region are still very much alive. A lot of the old traditions can still be observed today. Therefore, the entire calender year is marked by vivid traditions and customs which are deeply rooted in the region's culture and are carefully preserved and passed on from generation to generation.
